SemiPermanent is one of the biggest and oldest design conferences in the world, with an accumulated 400,000 attendees and 800 speakers in its 14-year life. MK12 and myself are among those 800, and we have produced several short films for SemiPermanent events in the past, but never for their flagship event in
Sydney. So we gladly accepted their invitation and spent the following weeks working with camera FX guru Brendan Bellomo and Renegade FX Group to build and explode practical letters made from chalk at 2400 frames per second. Almost a half ton of chalk was procured for the shoot; things got messy.
